EU-DRIVERS
AMSE is a partner in the EU-DRIVERS project, funded by the European Commission under the Lifelong Learning Programme. This project is designed to improve regional cooperation between universities, private sector companies and local governments in order to enhance the innovation capacities of European universities, working at the level of deans of faculties. The example of medicine, perhaps the largest "industry" in Europe, has much to offer in the development of other university-industry-government partnerships
Standards for the PhD degree in biomedicine
AMSE is working with ORPHEUS and the World Federation for Medical Education to create a set of standards for the PhD degree in biomdicine and the health sciences, building on the pioneering work of ORPHEUS in this area. A Task Force for this project was set up by the three organisations, and met in Zagreb in October 2010. Good progress has been made since then by the writing group set up by the Task Force, and the draft standards were discussed at the 2011 ORPHEUS Conference in Izmir.

World Federation for Medical Education
AMSE was represented at the April 2009 meeting of the Executive Council of the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) in Irbid, Jordan, and again at the March 2010 meeting in Bangkok. WFME is the global organisation concerned with education and training of medical doctors, in which regional associations for medical education from around the world work in partnership with other organisations such as the World Medical Association and WHO.
MEDINE Quality Assurance Task Force - Outcome published
AMSE and the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) jointly led the quality assurance task force of MEDINE, the European Union-funded thematic network in medicine. The task force developed European specifications to the already well-established WFME global quality assurance standards, for all three phases of medical education: not only for the undergraduate course, but also in postgraduate medical education, and the continuing education of the doctor throughout his or her career. The outcome is a comprehensive set of proposed standards, both those considered to be essential and others to which institutions should aspire – “basic standards” and “quality development standards”. These were published in May 2007 and can be viewed here.
