AMSE was invited by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research to the Hearing on the recommendations of the Expert Commission for the “Master Plan for Medical Studies 2020”, 29 January 2019, Berlin /Germany

The Master Plan for Medical Studies 2020 is an important step towards modern medical studies in Germany, which prepares physicians for the future challenges and ensures good patient care throughout Germany in the future as well. 37 measures are included in the Master Plan, more practical relevance in studies and a strengthening of general medicine are of great importance, especially with regard to the good provision in rural areas. At the same time, the ability to work scientifically is strengthened. The recommendations of the Expert Commission included 6 of the 37 measures, such as:

  • Interprofessional courses
  • Checking the number of credits for subjects and cross-sectional areas as well as the compulsory grading
  • Introduction of a certificate of achievement for the structured communication of scientific competences
  • Linking clinical and theoretical content from the first semester to at the end of the training.

Unfortunately international collaborations and aspects are not mentioned in the Master Plan or in the recommendations of the Expert Commission.

The discussion of the individual topics was fundamentally constructive, only the question of the financing the project was poorly mentioned. At the end there was little content positioning by the by representatives of the Ministry.
