AMSE at the World Health Summit (WHS), 14 – 16 October 2018, Berlin / Germany

Under the high patronage of the German Chancellor Angela Merkel, the President of France Emmanuel Macron and the President of the European Union Jean-Claude Juncker the World Health Summit 2018 in Berlin welcomed about 2,400 participants and 300 speakers from over 100 nations.

Some of the highlights were certainly Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organisation, presenting the “Global Action Plan for Healthy Lives and Well-being for All”, 300 speakers from all different sectors and professions taking part in the discussions, the World Doctors Orchestra performing at the Opening Ceremony and Commander Alexander Gerst’s video message from the ISS in outer space.

On its 10th anniversary, WHS had the privilege to collaborate with the Grand Challenges Annual Meeting of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

A Joint Plenary Session with, among others, Angela Merkel, the Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg, Microsoft Founder Bill Gates, and Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, was proof of the strong support for jointly progressing towards achieving the health-related Sustainable Development Goals.

In the workshop “Global Health in Academic Institutions” the importance of “Global Health Issues” in the education of medical doctors and other health care workers for the 21st century was highlighted.

AMSE-President Peter Dieter could make contact with many participants, he introduced AMSE and its quality assurance program which was very well received.
