AMSE at the 5th Global Conference in cooperation with EASPA and support of INQAAHE 10 – 11 December 2018, Berlin /Germany

The world of Higher Education is rapidly changing and so are the challenges the community is facing. On the Conference, entitled “The dawning of a new era of Higher Education quality assurance – what can we expect from the future?”, many prominent speakers (ENQA, EQAR, UNESCO, ECFMG, European Council, ..) and an international audience from all around the world discussed and learned about the latest developments in this field. Main topics were:

  • How can universities make best use of institutional and program accreditation models?
  • Mutual recognition of Higher Education – what new instruments are currently developed and implemented?
  • How to measure the impact of internal and external accreditation? Accreditation and Student Achievement – how to deal best with the issue of measuring achieved learning outcomes in HE?
  • What promising alternative models of QA in Higher Education are currently operating?
  • Learning from the world – what is new in Higher Education in Asia, Africa, and the Arab World?

Furthermore, new developments of QA in various HE disciplines (medicine, informatics, chemistry, business, engineering, ..) were discussed in separate workshops. In the medical sector e.g., the fact that as of 2023 only graduates of WFME accredited medical programs will be permitted to work and research in the United States will be of interest. Prof. William Pinsky (ECFMG) gave some insight in this US initiative and Prof. Peter Dieter (AMSE) talked about a new initiative for QA assurance in WHO Europe.
