AMSE at the 2019 World Federation for Medical Education World Conference, 7 – 10 April 2019, Seoul / South Korea

WFME invited AMSE President Peter Dieter to talk about the AMSE/ASIIN Quality Assurance Pilot Project. His talk was very well received and aroused great interest, especially from European Medical Schools and Accreditation Agencies, who wanted to learn more about this pilot project.

The World Conference in Seoul focussed on the following questions and topics:

• What is happening in the WFME Recognition of Accreditation programme, and how should an accrediting agency prepare for it?
• Are your practices in accreditation the right ones?
• How should you develop standards for education that are right for the context of your medical school, your country or your region?
• How can we help to make the transition from medical school, to postgraduate education, and on to a fully-established medical career while maintaining a lifetime of learning and quality improvement? What are the questions to be answered in developing accreditation of postgraduate medical education?

Speakers from all parts of the world included WFME advisors and assessors from the WFME Recognition of Accreditation programme, accreditation experts, specialists in the development of WFME Standards for Basic Medical Education, authorities on accreditation and many more.

About WFME and its main issues:

1. WFME publishes international best practice Global Standards for Quality Improvement of Medical Education, covering Basic (Undergraduate) Medical Education (BME); Postgraduate Medical Education (PME); and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) of Medical Doctors.
2. The WFME Recognition Programme evaluates agencies against internationally accepted criteria for accreditation. Recognition Status is the quality measure which confers the understanding that the quality of medical education in accredited schools is to an appropriate and rigorous standarda lively and active organisation working to improve the quality of medical education in all parts of the world.
3. The World Directory is a freely accessible directory of the world’s undergraduate (basic) medical education programmes. It contains information for over 2,900 schools, both operational and historical, including curriculum and enrolment details.
