We are very sorry to hear that Petr Hach died on 24 May 2014.
Petr Hach was President of AMSE from 2001 to 2004, taking over the chair at short notice from Professor Antonio Campos. His calm and scholarly leadership of AMSE over three years, from the Annual Conference in Ghent in 2001 to the Manchester Conference in 2004, was recognised by his colleagues on the Executive Council as an excellent example of a fine combination of academic and practical talents in the service of the Association. He was elected as an Honorary Member of AMSE in 2008.
Petr Hach had been Dean of the First Medical Faculty of the Charles University in Prague from 1993 to 1999, and in his career had received many honours and other measures of his academic eminence. But – above all – he was a lovely and good man, which is even more important than his many medical and scientific achievements. We will miss him very much.
